Unbound Stories is a social impact consultancy that translates lived migrant and refugee expertise into cultural safety training, inclusive strategies, and storytelling tools that shift culture from the inside out.
Founded in 2023, Unbound Stories partners with refugee leaders, grassroots organisations, and institutions to deliver training, strategic communications, and advocacy grounded in ethical and culturally safe storytelling models.
Our work spans capacity building for community advocates, cross-cultural engagement, and the design of innovative storytelling initiatives that shift narratives, influence policy, and amplify lived experience voices. With expertise across humanitarian, development, and corporate sectors, we combine research-based approaches with creative practice to foster authentic representation, leadership development, and systemic change.
Based in Sydney, available Australia-wide and remotely.
Our mission: To amplify the voices of underrepresented communities through ethical storytelling, cultural safety practices, and capacity building.
Our vision: A world where storytelling drives social equity, inclusion, and systemic transformation.
Cultural inclusion isn't a checkbox. It's the foundation where diverse employees, businesses, and customers all thrive. Migrants make up nearly 30% of Australia's workforce — yet many still feel unseen, unheard, and undervalued. That's where we come in.
We prioritise consultants with firsthand experience in their fields, ensuring culturally and evidence-based impact. Real inclusion doesn't come from a playbook — it comes from understanding the stories that shape your workplace.
We use design thinking and storytelling tools — ranging from audio and visual to narrative formats — to develop inclusive missions and communication strategies that resonate with diverse and global audiences.
Our storytelling model, tools, and techniques are designed based on Cultural Safety principles and research. Everything we do is grounded in the Three S's: Safety, Strength, and Solidarity.
Developed in 2023 and grounded in global research with refugee-background storytellers, the CSM introduces five core principles — a compass for ethical, authentic, and impactful storytelling.
AARC-K · Authenticity · Antifragility · Respect · Connection · Kairos
Truth telling is a culturally safe practice. Challenge stereotypes through nuanced character development and story arcs.
Beyond resilience — growth and strength from discomfort and uncertainty. The phoenix arc.
Ethical practices and narrative ownership. Collaborative storytelling with consent throughout the process.
Stories that highlight shared human experiences — love, loss, joy, hope, and friendship.
The right story at the right time — understanding when a story is ready and safe to be told.
